Who signed the Voting Rights Act? |
On August, 6, 1965 a very important act was signs. This was called The Votings Right Act of 1965. It was signed by President Lyndon Johnson. It was after the civil war and it outlawed the discriminatory voting practices. It was adopted by many southern states. The main reason that they created this was so that African American's had he right to vote and so that they could overcome this barrier as it was guaranteed in the 15th Amendment. Many people considered this voting right act as one of the most "far-reaching pieces of civil rights legislation in U.S history."
